PETA Kills Animals? Yep...

PETA reached the zenith of hypocrisy with this one. They have been saying that they have been "euthanizing" animals. It just doesn't get any better than this.

I'm no fan of PETA, but let me pay devil's advocate here. These were two bad apples that weren't following proper legal procedures. PETA does legally euthanize animals, their page on the matter explains why they do it:

I don't think that euthanizing animals makes PETA people hypocrites. I think that there are far better examples of hypocrisy coming from that organization -- I learned many of them from the one anti-PETA episode of Penn & Teller's Bullshit!

They interviewed one of the higher representatives at PETA who is taking pills for a medical condition. The pills are a result of animal medical testing. One of the experts they interviewed concluded that if animal medical experimentation was stopped, all medical progress would pretty much come to a halt. Until we get the technology to observe the effects of medicine without animal testing, it must continue.

That said, I think SOME of the things that PETA stands for are things that most people would agree with: punishing animal abusers, promoting free-range meat instead of factory farms, and promoting vegetarianism/veganism as an option for better health (vegetarianism and veganism when practiced correctly, can lead to lower risk of cancer and heart disease). But, like the gay rights organization GLAAD, they, in my opinion, take things too far (GLAAD promotes censorship, which I oppose).

I am not a vegetarian, but I respect those who can pull it off. I don't make fun of them or condemn them for choosing to eat the way they do -- it's their body after all. I don't seek out reasons to claim that a vegetarian lifestyle is unhealthy -- that would be unscientific.
