Finally the mainstream media is covering this problem. Now that people know the problem, perhaps they will ask me for the solution.. In the words of Mr. Burns, "Excellent!"

You need more than just that, my friend.

You need an Academic Bill of Rights in your state.

This link on economic graduate students relates to your story: http://www.marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2005/03/are_economic_gr.html

In academia, even economists won't categorize themselves as conservatives!

academic bill of rights=tyranny

Here is the thing Aaron: the Bill specifically states that it prevents discrimination based on political/religious beliefs in hiring and firing of professors. As long as it never uses discrimination, ie: to enact affirmative action of right-wingers, I will support it.

As far as regulating what is said in the classroom, I think that it should be up to students to debate their profs and challenge them. On the other hand, if a German language prof is spending an inordinate amount of time bashing political figures instead of teaching German... shouldn't they be reprimanded for failing to do their job?

A spade is a spade, and you are either libertarian or your not- academic bill of rights sounds like a bill that a democrat would be behind.
